Japan Campervan Itineraries for Scenic Self Drive Adventure
Looking for a Japan trip itinerary that doesn’t lock you into trains and hotel check-ins? Start in Tokyo, grab a campervan, and go. We’ve put together routes for 7 days, 10 days, and 14 days based on the trips travelers actually take with us. Some head for Mount Fuji and the lakes. Some chase onsen towns through the mountains. A few drive north all the way to Hokkaido. Pick the one that fits your time and just go.
for Your Travel Style
There’s no single “best Japan trip itinerary.” It depends on how long you’ve got, what season you’re coming in, and whether you want to cover ground or take it slow.
Short on time? A 7-day trip from Tokyo gets you to Mount Fuji, Hakone, or up into the Japanese Alps without rushing. Got 10 days? You can stretch into Tohoku for quieter roads and late cherry blossoms, or head west toward Kyoto. Two full weeks opens up the big stuff Hokkaido, full Kyushu loops, or chasing sakura from south to north depending on the season.
Traveling with kids? Some of our routes are way more family-friendly than others. The Fuji Five Lakes area has easy parking, kid-friendly campgrounds, and short driving days. Coming in winter? We’ve got a ski route toward Nagano and Niigata that gets you to the powder without dealing with airport transfers and shuttle buses.
We’re based in Tokyo, Osaka, and Fukuoka with around 150 campervans on the road. We’ve been doing this since 2015, all our vans are fully insured, and our team speaks English if you get stuck somewhere or need a tip on where to park overnight. Have a look at the itineraries below, pick one that sounds like your kind of trip, and let us know when you want to pick up the keys.
